About Me

Matthew Koscica's headshot. I am a graduate of Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, where in 2012 I obtained my Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, with a concentration in Organic Chemistry. As a participant of the NUPSP program, I matriculated to Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. It was during my third year of medical school that I decided to pursue a career in psychiatry, and during my fourth year of medical school, I was accepted to the psychiatry residency at the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University in 2016. During my residency, including a final year spent as a chief resident, I gradually shifted my career goals towards a focus in outpatient psychiatry and psychotherapy, and ultimately founded my practice shortly after my graduation from the program in 2020. I received my initial ABPN board certification in September 2020.

About the Practice

My practice focuses on a combination of up-to-date and evidence-based psychopharmacology and psychotherapy to help with an individual's problems. Patients who engage in treatment with medications will generally be seen at intervals ranging from 1–3 months—sometimes more frequently if a medication is being actively started, changed, or monitored—while patients engaging in psychotherapy (with or without the use of medications) will typically be seen every 1–2 weeks.

Though I enjoy the process of engaging in psychotherapy, I do understand that many patients may already have an established relationship with another therapist in the community. In these cases, I am happy to collaborate with the patient's therapist to offer another perspective, as well as provide treatment with medications.

As a general adult psychiatrist, I am able to treat a wide variety of psychiatric conditions. However, my practice specializes in the treatment of:

While I am able to treat conditions relating to, or occurring alongside, substance abuse (such as alcohol abuse), patients for whom addiction and/or dependence is a primary issue often achieve greater success with programs dedicated to the treatment of substance abuse, as these programs are often able to offer greater resources through a team of professionals.

Schedule

My office is open Monday through Friday, with appointments available as early as 7am for those patients interested in appointments prior to the typical workday. I do not regularly offer evening hours at this time. The office generally closes at 4:30pm; please contact me via voicemail or secure message if you need to reach me after-hours. For emergencies taking place after-hours, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
